Things to do in Capitol Reef

Utah contains some great sites to see. One of the most amazing and yet less visited of the Utah National Parks is Capitol Reef Park.

Capitol Reef is basically a large park and campground which host the following attractions.

1. Great Waterpocket Fold

The Waterpocket fold is an enormous canyon that reaches from Northern Arizona to Middle Utah. This large structure is one of the main attractions of the park and is a perfect place to study geology at.

This large land mark was created over 65 million years ago by a large event called the Laramide Orogeny, which created mountains and pushed large rocks aside.

2. Cave Painting

Before the Americans came to settle the land the Fremont Indians roamed around the park. Because of that there are still a lot of interesting cave paintings and carvings that are present throughout much of the park.

These indians told stories when they drew their pictures, so they are filled with ancient mythologies. If you love Native Americans you are going to love this park.

3. Old Houses

Mormons settled the land when escaping from American who did not hold their same religious beliefs. Until the early 1900s the civilization remained cut off from the rest of the world. Today there are still ruins from the old village that once stood here.

4. Deer

If there is one thing this park has plenty of it is deer. Visiting the park you wonder if 90% of Utah’s deer population lives in this one park. The deer tend to hang out around the camp grounds and are very friendly. I have several close up videos and pictures I got at the park.

There are plenty of other wild animals to see as well, deer just seem to make up the largest population. If you are ever in Southern Utah or Northern Arizona then you may want to take a visit to the park.
