What should you do when you encounter these animals in Sri Lanka?

Ok so your prepped for your holiday in the great unknown, with tour guide ready. Is there anything that you should really be all that worried about when going on a Sri Lanka safari?

  1. Many people look forward to seeing an Elephant on safari. However these animals can be extremely deadly, although these animals have been domesticated, when mating season approaches, and sometimes at random moments, elephants go through a phase could Musth, which quite simply translated means “Madness”.
  2. If you really want an animal to be scared of then welcome to the Leopard. These are some of the most perfectly adept predators in the world, so there is one good reason not to come across them. If you see one of the animals coming towards you slowly, then stand still, don’t run! There are only a small number of these beasts in Sri Lanka, so finding one will be tricky any way.
  3. Many people think that this is not really a dangerous animal, but it all depends on the person who confronts it. This is the Sambar Deer, a beast of all dears, extremely large. They are generally very calm and do not attack normally unless they feel threatened. They will charge if they feel they are under attack, and weighing in at around 280 kilos each, you don’t want a stampede.
  4. If your bored of hearing about mammals here are a couple of reptiles. This is probably the easiest animal to annoy and aggravate, the Swamp Crocodile is a particularly nasty animal. Keep your your distance as much as possible from this one, they are deceptively fast on land.
  5. When i say lizard, you probably won’t think much of it, read on. This lizard is best known as a Monitor Lizard, and is a deadly creature about 2 and a half metres in length. Do not get in this animals way!
