Paris is usually the first stop for anyone who visits France. But when it comes to France, there are many more places worth visiting and the ones which are my favourites are listed below. You really need to take your time visiting some of the wonderful parts of France to really see its true potential.
- You will find the feudal village of Beynac situated along the banks of the Dordogne River. The movie Chocolat was filmed in part is this picturesque area so you may already have an idea of what it is like. It is overlooked by a wonderful castle and the whole area feels like something out of a fairytale. If you haven’t already visited the village of Beynac you are certainly missing out on a special part of France.
- Mont St Michel is on a tiny island that can be walked to when the tide is out. This is probably one of the most celebrated abbeys in France and the tiny cobbled streets on the island are truly enchanting. You can really appreciate this superb location if you try to come when there are not so many tourists.
- Nice is the heart of the French Rivera and is full of all those things you would expect to find in a coastal town. Here you can enjoy long walks or you can enjoy spending the afternoon relaxing in the many outdoor cafes. Nice was probably one of the first tourist destinations that there ever was and you will find that many tourists still come here every year.
- If you want to find a location which has a blend of both French and German culture then Alsace is the place to visit; this town has been passed between the two countries more than once over the years. You really can see what would happen when you mix the cultures of two countries when you visit this amazing town.
It’s great getting an English ferry (ferry angleterre) when visiting England. Very often, though, some enjoy the delights of the Channel Tunnel (tunnel sous la manche). If you want to stay in England (sejour angleterre), these ways are the best means of getting there.
